CrossFit - The Fittest Woman in the World: Thor's DaughterMay 23, 2012
Free download from the CrossFit Journal. "I decided I wanted to give CrossFit a chance, and I'm really glad I did," Annie Thorisdottir says. "I think it couldn't have turned out any better. Really happy with it." Join filmmaker Sevan Matossian as he captures the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games winner Annie Thorisdottir back at her Iceland box, CrossFit BC Island. She reveals more about herself as an athlete and coach. Thorisdottir credits her background as a gymnast for much of her success in CrossFit. She started coaching gymnastics at age 15 and has been coaching CrossFit for almost two years. In addition to her fitness pursuits, Thorisdottir is also a full-time student studying chemistry. "I wanna study medicine—I just haven't had time for it," she says. Thorisdottir has been even busier since returning to Iceland. "After the Games this year, like everybody in Iceland knows what CrossFit is," she says. In fact, the popularity of the sport means she has even had to turn down new clients due to lack of space. Thorisdottir says her routine is to train twice a day, with gymnastics, mobility and technique in the morning and strength, heavier technique and met-cons in the afternoon. She also shares info on her nutrition and her supplemental training, which periodically includes yoga. "I'm excited about next year, and I'm excited about competing next year," Thorisdottir says. "I wanna win, of course, but it's always the thing: you're getting better, everybody else is getting ...

Suna no onna (Woman in the dunes) (1964) - Hiroshi TeshigaharaMay 20, 2012
Director: Hiroshi Teshigahara Writers: Kôbô Abe (novel), Kôbô Abe (screenplay), Eiko Yoshida Jumpei Niki, a Tokyo based entomologist and educator, is in a poor seaside village collecting specimens of sand insects. As it is late in the day and as he has missed the last bus back to the city, some of the local villagers suggest that he spend the night there, they offering to find him a place to stay. That place is the home of a young woman, whose house is located at the bottom of a sand pit accessible only by ladder. He later learns that the woman's husband and child died in a sandstorm, their undiscovered bodies buried somewhere near the house. The next morning as he tries to leave, he finds that the ladder is gone - he realizing that the ladder he climbed down was a rope ladder which is anchored above the pit - meaning that he is trapped with the young woman as the walls of the pit are sand with no grip. He also realizes that this entrapment was the villagers and the young woman's plan for him to stay there permanently to be her helper in the never-ending task of digging out the sand, which if not done will swallow them alive. They are dependent upon the villagers to help remove the sand, but also for their rations including water. He learns that the sand is the young woman's life, and that she knows or wants no other life. Thus, it is no use either to blackmail or kill her as she is willing to live and die by this life, and as such he will surely die if she is dead. His ...

Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The YearMay 19, 2012
Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) has just graduated, and his marks are, well, let's say a little embarrassing. But marks never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career, and they never will. He takes a deep, positive breath and dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career for all smart people blocked from entering medical, engineering or business schools by brainless entrance exams. It's everything he dreamt of, with its smooth dressing, smoother talking men and women who can sell ice to an Eskimo, dreams to an insomniac, and a lifetime mobile connection to a dying man. But soon, his idea of success begins clashing with the strange ways of these 'professionals' he looked up to. "ROCKET SINGH - Salesman of the Year" is the sometimes thoughtless, sometimes thoughtful story of a fresh graduate trying to find a balance between the maddening demands of the 'professional' way, and the way of his heart - and stumbling upon a crazy way which turned his world upside down, and his career right side up.
